While the 90th edition of 24 Hours of Le Mans has just come to an end, it is now time for figures and statistics. There Toyota No. 8 tamed the double turn of the clock but was she the fastest? How many laps did she complete during the set time?

This year again, as since 2018, Toyota has once again won the 24 Hours of Le Mans. With this success, the Japanese brand becomes a five-time winner of the Le Mans event. The No. 7 and No. 8 Toyota must still win 14 times to join Porsche record holder for the number of successes in Sarthe (19).

In the crew of the No. 8 Toyota, some drivers are starting to get used to tasting the joy of the podium. This year, Sébastien Buemi signed his 4th success after winning the 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022 editions. The Swiss joins Olivier Gendebien, Henri Pescarolo and Yannick Dalmas in the club of quadruple winners. Only 5 drivers managed to do better including Jacky Ickx (6) and Monsieur Le Mans, Tom Kristensen (9).

380

With 24 hours on the same loop, the drivers know the Le Mans route by heart. This year, the No. 8 Toyota completed 380 laps during the 24 hours of racing, 9 more than in 2021. At the wheel of the leading car, it was Brendon Hartley who spent the most time on the track, 8 hours 45 minutes and 11 seconds to be precise.

While in Hypercar, the suspense for victory was rare, in the other categories, many teams fought for the final coronation. In total, across all categories, there were 85 lead driver changes. (21 in Hypercar, 11 in LMP2, 32 in LMGTE Pro, 21 in LMGTE Am)

A bit like Charles Leclerc en Formula 1, pole position at the 24 Hours of Le Mans is not always synonymous with victory. The No. 8 Toyota managed to convert first position on the grid into victory for the 13th time in the history of the event since 1963, when pole position was established. In 2021 and 2018, Toyota had already managed to win from first place. Other successes range from 2016 to 1974 (1974, 1975, 1981, 1982, 1997, 2003, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2018, 2021 and 2022).

342,3 km/h

The 24 Hours of Le Mans is an event that must be won over time. This does not prevent pilots from panicking the radars with their top speed. It was on the 9th lap that Sébastien Buemi achieved the best performance of the weekend at 342,3 km/h. In comparison, top speeds in the other categories are 12 km/h lower in LMP2 (330,8), 30 in LMGTE Pro (312,7) and 34 in LMGET Am (308,2).

3'27 "749

Top speed often rhymes with the best lap in a race. The Swiss driver was not able to set the best time. This year it is Jose Maria Lopez, the driver of the #010 Toyota GR7 Hybrid who set it on the 131st lap in 3'27″749.

To complete the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it's not a question of age. Joshua Pierson understood this well by finishing in 6th position with United Autosport at just 16 years old. The American becomes the youngest driver in the history of the event at 16 years, 3 months and 25 days. The oldest driver on the grid this year was Pierre Ehret at 65 years old aboard the Ferrari 488 n°75 in LMGTE Am. Forty-nine years separate the two men.

Among the 186 drivers who hit the tarmac for the 90th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, 50 discovered the double clock tower for the first time in Sarthe. In the list of rookies, we find drivers who have already built a legend in motorsport like Sébastien Ogier. For a first, the Frenchman finished in the top 10 with Richard Mille Racing.

244 200

In 2022, the 24 Hours of Le Mans finally returned to a formula without restrictions for spectators. Many of them responded to the call for the legendary endurance test. In total, 244 people gathered around the Sarthe circuit.

* As a reminder, the 2020 edition took place behind closed doors while in 2021 only 50 visitors were accepted.

The number of candles blown out by the Le Mans event. Next year will therefore mark the centenary of the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the added bonus of the return of Peugeot , Cadillac and Acura, Porsche and Ferrari in the premier category.
