For the last appearance of the GTE Pro, Frédéric Makowiecki could not dream of a better farewell in this category. In the Sarthe, the Frenchman managed to master the elements to complete the 350th lap of the event with Gianmaria Bruni and Richard Lietz in the lead. “ It’s a magnificent success. I am very proud of the team, we worked a lot for this victory. After a difficult start to the race we were able to come back and strike at the right time. Ferrari was very strong at the end of the race, as we expected », explique le pilote du Porsche GT Team.

This success took time to emerge and the battle for victory experienced many twists and turns after, among other things, the abandonment of the No. 64 Corvette. Precisely after Alexander Sims' accident, it was the Scuderia which took control of the race. During the 20th hour of the race, Gianmaria Bruni took advantage of a puncture for the Italian to take the lead. “ This victory represents a lot of emotions; I came here for the first time in 1993 and that's what made me love endurance. I had a dream, I wanted to win Le Mans », declares Frédéric Makowiecki who ultimately spent almost 9 hours in the car.

« So some will perhaps say that it is “only a category victory” but it has nothing to envy of an overall victory, with major battles and manufacturers officially involved. The Porsche 911 RSR at Le Mans represents a great story, and now we are part of it. » With this success, Porsche and Frédéric Makowiecki will forever remain the last winners of Le Mans in GTE Pro.
