It was long, sometimes laborious, but Michael Fassbender was one of those when the 24 Hours of Le Mans this week-end. The Hollywood star finished in the penultimate place in the legendary endurance test (51st out of 53), certainly, but he reached the end all the same. On a Porsche prepared by Proton Competition, the Irish actor will not have had a relaxing weekend.

A collision, an exit from the track, but no abandonment

A neophyte in the ordeal, Michael Fassbender will certainly have been more noticed for his roles in Inglourious Basterds ou X-Men only for his performances on the track, with the 185th time to his credit (out of 186 drivers on the track). But for a first in Sarthe, finishing the 24 Hours is already almost a feat.

It must be said that the Hollywood actor has been preparing for four long years for this immense challenge, which many cinema personalities have already taken up (Paul Newman, Patrick Dempsey to name a few). After participating in the Porsche Carrera Cup at the end of the 24 2020 Hours of Le Mans, Fassbender then competed in the rounds ofELMS, carried out on Le Mans Test Day in 2021, before finally officially lining up for the race this year.

But as one would expect for a rookie at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Michael Fassbender, who was lapping in more than four minutes per lap, experienced some serious scares on the track. Shortly after 23 p.m., he was the victim of a collision with another driver – who would later receive a one-minute stop and go – at the Indianapolis corner, sending him into the gravel without him being able to react. . The driver of the No. 93 Porsche nevertheless returned painfully to the pits, immobilizing his damaged car for many minutes. In the morning, he was once again noticed by leaving the track before passing the Dunlop footbridge, this time without consequences.

Finally, Fassbender will finish the event on the good side, that of the finishers. Although the result was not enough to stir the crowds, the bet he had launched a few years earlier was successful. From there to playing the leading roles soon? We will instead have to look towards the seventh art.
