A bad for a good. This is, in a way, the conclusion that we can draw from the accident involving Philippe Cimadomo during testing of the 24 Hours of Le Mans 2022 on Thursday June 9. The gentleman driver of the TDS x Vaillante team was then prohibited from starting by the panel of commissioners due to the dangerous nature of his piloting.

The French team had until noon this Friday, June 10 to find and announce the identity of the replacement. It will ultimately be the Dutchman Nyck de Vries. The world champion of Formula E in 2021 with Mercedes find theEndurance after three starts in Sarthe with Racing Team Nederland (already technically managed by TDS Racing) then G-Drive Racing between 2019 and 2021. His third start at Le Mans resulted in a seventh place, his best performance on the legendary World Endurance Championship event (WEC).

Nyck de Vries also has solid experience in prototypes, since he serves as test and reserve pilot for the Toyota Gazoo Racing since 2020 in LM P1 then in Hypercar. Due to the driver's pedigree, the LM P2 moves into the Pro category although it was originally entered in Pro-Am.

This scenario worthy of a Michel Vaillant comic strip occurs, by chance, on the exact day of the publication of the 11th volume of Season 2, “Cannonball”. The action takes place between New York and Los Angeles during a supercar race:
