Peugeot & Alpine : the last will be first

There is no point in running... It has always been true that qualifying has only a minor role in 24 Hours of Le Mans, the exercise being so long and random that pumping up your muscles before the race mainly has an egotistic use in relation to the competition.

After laborious tests and qualifications, Peugeot et Alpine did not give up, and very inspired strategies at the start of the race rewarded them. From the first laps covered under Safety Car regime due to the chaos of the first lap, Alpine shifted in strategy. As for Peugeot, the precipitation and poor choices of its opponents – combined with the good ones of its strategists – brought the #9 8X94 up to the lead at the start of the 4th hour of the race.

Who could have imagined such a scenario when leaving the Hyperpole on Thursday evening?

The capricious weather favors the Peugeot 9X8 a little on paper, because the deployment of its electric energy on the front axle is legally possible from 150 km/h, compared to 190 km/h for the other LMH Hypercars... and when the LMDh, simple propulsions, can do it without notion of speed. But 4-wheel drive in the rain is very practical...

No hasty conclusion however, there are still 20 hours of racing left…
