186 pilots

The grid of 24 Hours of Le Mans will be full again in 2023: at the start of the Sarthe event, next Saturday June 10, there will be 186 drivers who will compete for the final victory for the Centenary edition.

62 cars

The 62 garages of the 24 Hours of Le Mans will therefore be occupied for the Centenary edition. Among the 62 cars, there will be 16 Hypercars, 24 LM P2s, 21 GTE-Ams and 1 “Innovative Car”, the Nascar from the Hendrick Motorsport team. The queen category ofEndurance has never been so numerous since the 2011 edition (17 LM P1), and will be represented by four Porsche, three Cadillacs, two ToyotaTwo Peugeot Two Ferrari, two Glickenhaus and a Vanwall.

31 nationalities

Drivers from all continents will be present on June 10 and 11 in Sarthe, since 31 nationalities will be represented for the 24 2023 Hours of Le Mans. The most represented nations are France (31 drivers), Great Britain (24 pilots) and the United States (22 pilots). Small clarification: Daniil Kvyat (Prema) and Vladislav Lomko (COOL Racing) do not ride with the Russian license, but under a neutral banner with an Italian license for Kvyat and French for Lomko.

In addition, 16 nationalities are represented among the 62 teams entered, including 10 Italian cars, 9 German cars and 9 British cars. There will be 8 French cars at the start of the Centenaires edition, including the two Peugeot Hypercars.

5 female drivers

In 2023, 5 women will be at the start of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, including one in LM P2 and four in GTE-Am. Dorian Pin will be the sole representative of the female race in prototype, with the Prema team. In GT, Lilou Wadoux – first woman to win a race in the championship WEC during the 6 Hours of Spa – will be at the wheel of the Ferrari from the Richard Mille team. Finally, there will obviously be the all-female Iron Dames crew, with Sarah Bovy, Michelle Gatting and Rahel Frey.

8 reservists

Beyond the 62 official teams, 8 teams are ready in the event of a withdrawal or last minute defection. Among them, there are three teams in LM P2 and 5 in GTE-Am, including the Oreca of the DragonSpeed ​​team that Juan Pablo Montoya and his son, Sebastian Montoya, could drive.

17 former F1 drivers

Of the 186 drivers present on the entry list, 18 have already had experience in Formula 1 and have competed in at least one Grand Prix in their career. This is the case for Sébastien Bourdais, Jack Aitken (Cadillac), André Lotterer, Felipe Nasr (Porsche), Will Stevens (Jota), Kamui Kobayashi, Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley (Toyota), Paul di Resta, Jean-Éric Vergne (Peugeot), Antonio Giovinazzi (Ferrari) and Esteban Gutiérrez (Glickenhaus) for the Hypercar drivers. Jenson Button will also be the only active F1 world champion at Le Mans.

11 former winners at Le Mans

Finally, among the 186 drivers, only 11 have already tasted overall victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans: André Lotterer (2011, 2012 and 2014), Mike conway (2021), Kamui Kobayashi (2021), José Maria Lopez (2021), Sébastien Buemi (2018, 2019, 2020 and 2022), Brendon Hartley (2017, 2020 and 2022), Ryo Hirakawa (2022), Loïc duval (2013), Romain Dumas (2010 and 2016), Mike Rockenfeller (2010) and Neel Jani (2016).
