The future is already here at Le Mans. The first beginnings of the future hydrogen regulation, adopted for introduction from 2026 in WEC, are already being felt. On the sidelines of 24 Hours of Le Mans, Toyota has lifted the veil on the GR H2 Racing Concept. A car that uses the codes of the Hypercar regulations, with a hydrogen engine.

 

At the end of May, Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, announced that the 24 Hours of Le Mans would accept cars with hydrogen thermal engines and fuel cell cars in the premier class of the race from 2026. 'Endurance, during a press conference organized in Japan with Toyota. The Japanese manufacturer did not wait long before proposing a first concept respecting the codes of the future technical regulations.

Toyota, which wants to be a pioneer in this still emerging technology, is thus positioning itself as a serious candidate to enter, from 2026, a Hypercar with a hydrogen engine in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “Toyota intends to continue its efforts to produce ever more efficient motorsport cars and achieve a carbon neutral society, and looks forward to taking on the challenge of a new generation at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. ", can we read in the press release sent by Toyota.

The hydrogen category is already starting to gain a little success, since Hyundai would also have positioned itself to arrive in WEC with the same technology.
