Cars with hydrogen and fuel cell engines at the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 2026

This is a conference organized by Toyota, Mazda, ACO and Super Taikyu Organization and Tsuneharu Sato, CEO of Toyota, Masahiro Moro, next CEO of Mazda and Harumi Kuwayama, Secretary General of Super Taikyu Organization were present.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l'Ouest, announced that the 24 Hours of Le Mans would accept cars with hydrogen thermal engines and fuel cell cars in the premier category from 2026. In addition, in 2030, the premier category will be contested by hydrogen vehicles.

The participants were very surprised, especially on the Toyota side. The manufacturer is developing a car with a hydrogen thermal engine and is participating in the Super Taikyu series.

Sato did not give specific comments, saying only to reporters' questions: " I take it very positively. »

Pierre Fillon said: “ I dream of racing cars running at Fuji and Le Mans, one day using renewable energy and 100% without fossil fuels. »
