The European Le Mans Series (ELMS) will launch its 2022 season on Sunday April 17 at the Paul-Ricard circuit (Var). On this occasion, the endurance championship attracted no fewer than 42 vehicles with the following breakdown: 17 LM P2s, 13 LM P3s and 12 GTEs.
In the premier category, a new team arrives; renowned in single-seaters, Prema hires the outgoing champion Louis Delétraz, the LM P2 world champion Ferdinand Habsburg and the American Juan Manuel Correa.
Titled in ELMS in 2021, the Chinese Yifei Ye returns but with Cool Racing. Five teams flying the French flag will be there (IDEC Sport, Duqueine Team, TDS Racing X Vaillante, Graff Racing and Panis Racing). Team Virage as well as Nielsen Racing access the higher class from LM P3. Seven prototypes appear in the Pro-Am category.
In GTE, Ferrari se taille la part du lion avec sept 488 GTE Evo contre trois Porsche 911 RSR et deux Aston Martin Vantage AMR. The battle should concern the Proton Compétition team (winner in 2018 and 2020) which will be able to count on the experts Christian Ried and Gianmaria Bruni and the young Lorenzo Ferrari (Italian GT champion).
Rahel Frey, Michelle Gatting and Sarah Bovy will re-form the Iron Dames trio in the pink Ferrari of Iron Lynx. It is precisely in this stable that we will find the title holder Matteo Cressoni, assisted by Claudio Schiavoni and Davide Rigon. Absolute Racing will start in ELMS with 2020 champion Alessio Picariello as leader.
