BMW Ambassador, Alessandro zanardi continued his career with the Munich brand in motorsport (in ETCC then in WTCC) after his terrible accident in 2001 in CART, where the Italian had to have both legs amputated.
The multiple Paralympic handbike champion is launching a new challenge for 2019 with the 24 Hours of Daytona (Florida) at the wheel of a BMW M8 GTE which will be specially adapted to his disability.
In close collaboration with BMW Motorsport, Zanardi will notably develop a new braking system for its M8. After the Blancpain Sprint Series in 2014, or the 24 Hours of Spa in 2015 on a Z4 GT3, the Transalpine will be able to compete in one of the most important endurance events in the world with the latest creation from BMW Motorsport.
Jens Marquardt and @lxznr just announced that Alex will compete in the 2019 Daytona 24h race in a modified BMW M8 GTE! He will now start his “Road to Daytona”, including development works on a new braking system. #BMWSeasonReview17 #RoadtoDaytona pic.twitter.com/6S0mXNu0qp
