Corvette Racing confirms C8.R technical specifications

At time his recent presentation, the Corvette C8.R had not yet officially revealed all its secrets, starting with its technical sheet.

Corvette Racing provided more details this Friday, on the sidelines of the final of theIMSA to Small Le Mans, the latest release of the venerable C7.R which brought so much success to the American brand.

The American will trust in terms of the engine block to a 8 liter naturally aspirated V5,5, not giving in to the sirens of the turbo, and placed in the central rear position, a great first for the “Vette”.

A little over 500 hp are announced by the engineers, the power being in all cases subject to the Balance of Performance applied in IMSA or even in WEC.

This bulky “mill” is coupled to a six-speed X-Trac sequential gearbox, specially designed to free up space at the rear of the C8.R and thus give more importance to the diffuser, a major provider of aerodynamic downforce, and a very distinctive element on the current GTLM / GTE.

The search for mass savings and distribution of these same masses was at the heart of the concerns of Corvette Racing engineers. The car, based on a modified chassis from the very latest 2020 Corvette Stingray, brought a clear reduction on the scale and offers maximum sharing of parts with the production version.

Due to the change in engine architecture, Corvette Racing worked in very close collaboration with Michelin, in terms of tires to achieve optimal use of the rubber.

We remember that Porsche avait effectué un travail très poussé sur ce paramètre avant sa campagne victorieuse en WEC en 2018-2019 et aux 24 Heures du Mans.

Note that unlike recent years where yellow was required on the C7.R n°3 and n°4, only the first will retain this dominance in 2020, decorated with silver facings. No. 4 will have a reverse livery, with silver dominating yellow.

The car will be demonstrated this weekend at Petit Le Mans.
