Daytona: Antonio Garcia winner and positive for coronavirus

The winner's curse? During the 24 Hours of Dubai a fortnight ago, members of GPX Racing, winner of the event, and other participants, were struck by Covid-19.

At Daytona, it was Antonio Garcia, the Spanish driver of the GTLM-winning No. 3 Corvette, who fell ill.

“As part of international COVID travel protocols, all drivers and team members traveling to and from the United States are required to take a COVID test before and after any racing activity,” Corvette details in a press release. .

While Antonio Garcia tested negative in preparation for his arrival, we have been advised that he has now tested positive in preparation for his departure from the country. He was immediately withdrawn from competition upon notification of the positive test result. After consulting theIMSA and its event operations protocols, the series has determined that Corvette Racing meets all conditions of the IMSA event protocols that allow it to compete in a safe and responsible manner.

The party should therefore be moderate at Corvette this evening, despite the double.
