Acura Team Penske is definitely the team in form in qualifying in 2020 in IMSA. With a Juan Pablo Montoya always brilliant in the exercise, Roger Penske's team won a new pole this season, this time on the Californian track of Laguna Seca.
The Colombian, lined up in the No. 05 Acura ARX-6 alongside Dane Cameron, achieved the best time of this Sunday's qualifying session in 1'15 "174, ahead of his teammate by 0″159 Helio Castroneves, entered on the No. 7 with Ricky Taylor.
Best cumulative time of free practice, Oliver Jarvis places the first Mazda RT24-P n°77 in third position at 0, after beating Pipo Derani (Cadillac DPi-VR n°237 – Action Express Racing) by 9 thousandths.
Now Sébastien's teammate Bourdais in the No. 5 Cadillac DPi-VR – JDC-Miller Motorsports, Tristan Vautier set the fifth fastest time of the session at 0″287. Pole in LM P2 goes unsurprisingly to the Oreca 07 – PR1/Mathiasen of Patrick Kelly, the car being the only one entered in the category.
In GTLM, the No. 8 Corvette C3.R of Jordan Taylor a une nouvelle fois sévi, l’équipier d’Antonio Garcia bouclant son meilleur tour en 1’21″483, deux dixièmes devant la Porsche 911 RSR n°912 de Laurens Vanthoor, toujours associé à Earl Bamber.
Followed by the second Corvette C8.R n°4 of Gavin – Milner and the two BMW M8s of Spengler – De Phillippi and Edwards – Krohn. Note that Frédéric Makowiecki (Porsche 911 RSR n°911) took to the track at the end of the session, and did not set a real time, finishing at the back of the GTD pack, category dominated by the No. 3 Acura NSX GT86 Evo – Meyer Shank Racing of Matt McMurry.
The race will start at 22:50 p.m. French time and will be followed live here.
