Extreme Speed Motorsports takes on Petit Le Mans

Interspersed by a good number of yellow flags, the 20e edition of Le Petit Le Mans was won by the #2 Nissan Onroak DPi of the trio Brendon Hartley-Scott Sharp-Ryan Dalziel. Twenty minutes from time, victory seemed to reach out to the No. 22 Nissan Onroak DPi, led by Pipo Derani in great form. But found guilty of avoidable contact with the No. 67 Ford GT, the Brazilian received a drive through. In his wake, Filipe Albuquerque (Cadillac DPi-VR n°5) was sentenced to a Stop & Go of 60” for… unjustified risk-taking. Brendon Hartley, then third, didn't ask for that much and took the reins of the race, which he kept until the checkered flag.

After having a hard time in the final loops in the No. 31 Cadillac DPi-VR of his future teammate Dane Cameron, the Juan Pablo Montoya crew-simon pagenaud-Helio Castroneves offers Oreca and Team Penske a third place full of promise for 2018. On the second step, we therefore find the trio Dane Cameron-Eric Curran-Mike conway. Followed by the #2 Nissan Onroak DPi and the #5 Cadillac which, as a reminder, won the North American Endurance Cup

Among the disappointed, let us note the rapid abandonment of the champion, Wayne Taylor Racing, victim of an engine problem. The No. 07 Oreca 13 of Rebellion Racing and the Ligier JS P217 of PR1 Mathiasen Motorsports retired after leaving the track.

In GTLM, the No. 6 BMW M25 GTLM of Bill Auberlen-Alexander Sims-Kuno Wittmer won the day, ahead of the No. 1 Corvette C0.R of the 7 champions at the finish. Magnussen and Antonio Garcia, associated for the occasion with Mike Rockenfeller. In third place, we find the Ferrari 488 GTE n°62 of the Risi Competizione entrusted to Giancarlo Fisichella, Alessandro Pier Guidi and Toni Vilander.

As a reminder, the 2017 champions of theIMSA SportsCar Championship in Prototype, GTLM, GTD and PC are respectively Jordan Taylor-Ricky Taylor (Wayne Taylor Racing), Jan Magnussen-Antonio Garcia (Corvette Racing), Christina Nielsen-Alessandro Balzan (Scuderia Corsa) and James French-Pat O'Ward (Performance Tech Motorsports).
