Ford is going retro with its GTs for the 24 Hours. from Daytona

The Ford GTs from the Chip Ganassi Racing team surprised observers at the Roar before the 24 in Daytona (Florida) with their immaculate white color. But, most certainly inspired by the resounding success vintage Porsche 911 RSR decorations at Le Mans then at Petit Le Mans in 2018, the Oval brand has innovated by offering two retro liveries for the 24 Hours of Daytona (January 26-27) 2019.

On the side of the No. 66 Ford GT driven by Joey Hand, Dirk Müller and Sébastien Bourdais, the livery refers to the victorious Ford Mustang in the GTO category in Florida in 1985. At the time, the American thoroughbred was driven by John Jones, Wally Dallenbach Jr. and Doc Bundy on behalf of Roush Racing (a team that has since become Nascar).

The sister car, number 67, famously a long-standing partner of the US brand, Castrol. This Ford GT will be driven by the outgoing GTLM winners at Daytona, Richard Westbrook, Ryan Briscoe and Scott Dixon.

“I'm very proud that Ford is organizing something to mark 50 years of Imsa, says Richard Westbrook. I've seen quite a few videos of cars wearing Castrol colors at Daytona before the bus stop chicane was installed, it was a glorious period of Imsa. »

On Joey Hand's side, we appreciate the refreshing side of such a livery. It must be said that Ford has played the safety card since its return to GT with a single blue-red-white tint used since 2016, whether in WEC or in Imsa…

“It's always cool to have something new after riding the same colors for three years. Just the fact of driving all in white during testing was nice. I think the public will love these decorations. »

Hoping to see some news for 24 Hours of Le Mans, maybe?
