IMSA – Bomarito excited about the Mazda RT24-P

After defending the Mazda colors in IMSA at the wheel of the Lola chassis, Jonathan Bomarito participated in the debugging of the RT24-P DPi which will be entered in 2017. The 34-year-old American was enthusiastic after his first laps at the wheel of the respecting prototype. the new regulation.

“As I tried to attack harder and harder, I was surprised at how well she behaved. We hadn't even worked on the chassis settings yet. This has been very encouraging and demonstrates how well Riley/Multimatic has worked alongside the Mazda and SpeedSource engineers”, commented Jonathan Bomarito on the Mazda Motorsports website.

“The biggest difference with the 2016 car lies in the level of downforce generated by the RP-24 P, said the American. You really have to be able to trust the car mid-corner and show commitment as a driver. A driver must be comfortable to be able to attack and this car makes you want to attack harder and harder. It's both fun and rewarding. »

Jonathan Bomarito was also able to discover a new driving position which does not seem to have disappointed him either.

“The cockpit is narrow but it has many developments in terms of safety. The driving position is a little different since my legs are placed higher. As for visibility, it is very good, he added. The tires (Continental) have also progressed, with the previous compounds being designed for the heavier prototypes, which made it difficult for us to get our tires up to temperature. We no longer have this problem anymore. »

Mazda will continue to enter two prototypes for Jonathan Bomarito, Tristan Nunez, Tom Long and Joel Miller. The RT24-Ps will be on track at the Roar Daytona Test (Florida) from January 6 to 8.
