IMSA – Mazda’s colorful tribute to Watkins Glen

Mazda will celebrate 25 years since its victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans by displaying liveries paying homage to the victorious 787B in Sarthe in 1991 with the German Volker Weidler, the British Johnny Herbert and the Belgian Bertand Gachot during the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen (New York).

The No. 55 Mazda on which Spencer Pigot will support Tristan Nunez and Jonathan Bomarito will sport the famous orange and green colors.

“I wasn't born when they won Le Mans, but we have the technology to see videos of the car on the Internet, commented Tristan Nunez aged 20. I've been looking at them for years, even before I worked for Mazda. This is one of those cars that captivates the eye and that sound of the rotary engine! It will be an honor to have his colors. »

“The new track surface is completely smooth, I've never seen that. We don't feel any bump, it's very surprising. It offers incredible grip. The Mazda Prototype seems to perform very well on this circuit because it can run very low, which is the secret to the aero of this car”, added the American.

“Watkins Glen will be a new circuit for me, recalls his teammate Spencer Pigot. I've heard great things about it but I've never been there. My teammates are very efficient and they have good experience on this circuit. I will learn from them and it will be good preparation for me when I come back with theIndyCar (3 and 4) September. »

The No. 70 will use a similar scheme in the colors of the Japanese manufacturer, being driven by Tom Long, Joel Miller and Ben Devlin.
