IMSA – The teams will prepare for Le Mans in Monterey

The Monterey Grand Prix contested this weekend in Laguna Seca (California) will be an opportunity for the teams entered in GTLM to test the Michelin tires designed for the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Si le Team RLL ne sera pas du voyage dans la Sarthe les 18 et 19 juin avec ses BMW M6, les Porsche 911 RSR, the Ferrari 488, the Ford GT and the Corvette C7R will be there.

“This will be the first time that our teams entered in the WeatherTech Championship will be able to run with our latest versions of tires”, commented Chris Baker, the sporting director of Michelin North America.

“We competed in the first three races with the low-energy circuit tires. The erasers used in WEC, including at Le Mans, are designed to last two or three stints, which means that the tire must deliver high and constant performance for more than three hours., specified Chris Baker.

If the hilly Laguna Seca circuit of 3,6 km is not comparable to the 24 Hours of Le Mans circuit of 13,6 km, the teams are satisfied to still be able to study these tires before the biggest annual meeting of the'Endurance.

“This will help the teams present in Monterey to be at the same level as the GTE Pro teams in the WEC”, concluded Chris Baker.
