IMSA – Wayne Taylor Racing and Porsche win in Texas

Pole position and victory at the Texas event in Austin, the weekend of Wayne TaylorRacing looks like a flawless course, but the No. 10 Corvette DP of the Taylor brothers did not have an easy time getting a glimpse of COTA's Victory Lane.

It was initially the Mazda Prototypes which offered the first resistance to the leading Corvette DP, before falling back down the hierarchy in the face of the return of the No. 31 Action Express Racing of the Curran – Cameron tandem, back in second position.

First runner, Eric Curran confronted the No. 5 sister car of Barbosa – Fittipaldi at the start of the race, sending Fittipaldi into a spin on a maneuver that was too virile. The race stewards will sanction the No. 31 with a drive-through.

In the lead, nothing seemed to be able to prevent Wayne Taylor Racing from winning, but a spin coming out of the last corner by Jordan Taylor sent a shiver through the leaders' clan in the final minutes. Despite a now reduced lead and the return of Dane Cameron, Jordan Taylor retained the leadership and won with a margin of just under 1″5 at the finish line. Cameron and Curran, however, regain the lead in the championship.

The overall podium is completed by the No. 5 Corvette DP, while Joel Miller and Tom Long save a fourth place in the Mazda clan, after mechanical problems with the No. 55 of Bomarito – Nunez.

On PC, Renger van der Zande and Alex Popow (Starworks Motorsports) won with a tiny gap of six tenths over the #09 PR52/Mathiasen Motorsports Oreca FLM1 of Tom Kimber-Smith and Robert Alon. The top three in the category is completed by the No. 38 of James French and Nicholas Boulle (Performance Tech Motorsports).

La lutte a été intense en GTLM, mais Porsche repart du Texas avec un doublé. Aligned on the 911 RSR n°912, Earl Bamber and Frédéric Makowiecki offer themselves their first success of the year in front of their teammates Nick Tandy and Patrick Pilet. Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen (Corvette C7.R n°3) finished 3rd ahead of the first BMW M6 from Team RLL of Dirk Werner and Bill Auberlen.

Less success in the Ford clan, since the No. 67 of Westbrook – Briscoe was quickly slowed down in its progress following contact with the No. 4 Corvette, forcing the car with the blue oval to return to the pits. Joey Hand and Dirk Müller lift the No. 66 to sixth place in GTLM.

La Ferrari 488 of the Risi Competizione of Toni Vilander and Giancarlo Fisichella largely animated the debates in the peloton, the Italian notably coming into contact with the Porsche of Nick Tandy. Leading in the last quarter of the race, Toni Vilander was forced to return to the pits to remedy an electrical problem on the No. 62, before being able to restart to finish in eighth position in the category.

Victory in GTD ultimately went to the BMW M6 GT3 from Turner Motorsport of Jens Klingmann and Bret Curtis, who are ahead of the No. 48 Paul Miller Racing Lamborghini Huracan of Bryan Sellers and Madison Snow and the Ferrari 488 GT3 Scuderia Corsa of Alessandro Balzan and Christina Nielsen.

These last two crews took advantage of the fuel shortage of the No. 911 Porsche 3 GT23 R of Mario Farnbacher, associated with pole sitter Alex Ribeiras, on the last lap to get on the podium.
