Wayne Taylor Racing scored another victory on the Belle Isle circuit in Detroit (Michigan), a success that comes after that of Long Beach (California). The No. 10 Corvette DP of Jordan and Ricky Taylor won by less than two seconds over the No. 5 Action Express Racing of polemen Joao Barbosa and Christian Fittipaldi, after taking the lead at the halfway mark.

The race was marked by several accidents, notably that between Marc Goossens and Eric Curran in the first laps. The driver of the No. 90 Visit Florida Racing car lost his rear wing and collided with the No. 31 Action Express Racing car.

The Mazdas finished outside the top five while the Michael Shank Racing Ligier JS P2 of Negri Jr-Legge retired following a suspension problem.

In GTD, it was the Dodge Viper GT3-R of Bleekemolen-Keating of Riley Motorsports which won, finishing in tenth place in the general classification.
