The Acura surprise

We were expecting a duel between Audi and Peugeot , but it was ultimately Acura which took pole after having multiplied its attempts at the end of the session. Indeed, the brand new ARX-02A was the fastest in qualifying, thanks to an excellent time from Scott Dixon in the last minute of the test. But it must be emphasized that the R15 and 908 were content with much fewer laps to keep fresh tires at the start of the event. Obviously, Audi and Peugeot continue to hide their game for the moment?

In any case one thing is certain, the five leading cars are within less than three tenths in the end, which promises us a great show when the 12 Hours of Sebring kicks off.

The No. 2 Audi (Capello/Kristensen/McNish) will start in second position on the starting grid, ahead of the No. 7 Peugeot (Minassian/Lamy/Klien), which lost time due to a spin. -tail by Christian Klien. The Audi No. 1 (Luhr/Rockenfeller/Werner) will start from fourth place, ahead of the Peugeot No. 8 (Sarrazin/Montagny/Bourdais). Finally, the second Acura LMP1, that of Highcroft Racing (Brabham/Sharp/Franchitti), will be sixth on the grid.

As for LMP2, the battle came to an end between the only Acura still present in this category, that of Fernandez Racing, and the Lola-Mazdas of Dyson Racing. At the wheel of the ARX-01B, Adrian Fernandez is ahead of the two Lola-Mazdas by more than half a second, proof that there is still work to be done at Lola and MazdaSpeed to correct their deficit in pure performance...

In GT1, the Briton Oliver Gavin did better than Jan Magnussen in the traditional duel between the two Corvettes, beating him by three tenths in the end. On the GT2 side Porsche signs a double with Farnbacher-Loles and his qualifying specialist, Dirk Werner, and the Flying Lizard who managed to resist the Ferrari of Advanced Engineering, led by the excellent Gimmi Bruni.

Further on, the surprising Ford GT-R from Robertson Racing finished in fifth place, ahead of the Panoz from Team PTG as well as the #3 BMW M90, which was rather disappointing. The Viper of the Primetime Race Group, theAston Martin from Drayson Racing and the No. 18 Porsche from VICI Racing complete the Top 10.

The start of these 12 Hours of Sebring will be given this Saturday, at 15:30 p.m. French time.
