The 24 hours of Daytona interrupted by rain

As the day dawns in Florida, the 24 Hours of Daytona have been interrupted for more than an hour due to heavy rain.

The marshals deployed “full course yellow” shortly after Tommy Milner went off the track in the No. 7 Corvette C4R at the first turn. After more than an hour under safety car regime, the red flag was displayed. The water is particularly difficult to evacuate at the Bus Stop.

Before the interruption, Fernando Alonso highlighted himself by carrying out a very efficient relay in the rain. His No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing Cadillac DPi which he shares with Van der Zande-J. Taylor-Kobayashi is in the lead ahead of the two Acura DPi of Team Penske, the n°6 of Montoya-Cameron-Pagenaud ranking second ahead of R. Taylor's No. 7-Castroneves-Red. The No. 31 Action Express Racing Cadillac driven by Nasr-Curran-Derani remains in contention for victory while being in the leaders' lap.

In LMP2, it's the No. 07 Dragonspeed Oreca 81 from Hedman-Hanley.Stone-Allen who leads the category occupying 7th place in the general classification ahead of the sister car of Maldonado-Gonzalez-Saavedra-Cullen.

The Risi Competizione takes control of the GTLM with the Ferrari 488 GTE from Rigon-Molina-Pier Guidi-Calado which is ahead of the Porsche 911 RSR n°912 of Vanthoor-Bamber-Jaminet and the Ford GT n°66 of Hand-Müller-Bourdais. The resident of Dale Coyne Racing in IndyCar got caught in the rain when he hit a wall of tires after going straight.

The second Porsche driven by Pilet-Makowiecki-Tandy follows in 4th place ahead of the No. 67 Ford GT of Briscoe-Westbrook-Dixon and the No. 8 BMW M25 GTE of Farfus-de Phillippi-Eng-Herta. The Top 6 still evolves in the same round.

The No. 3 Meyer Shank Racing Acura NSX GT86 of Farnbacher-Hindman-Marks-Allmendinger leads the GTD where the fight for the lead is also contested since the first 12 crews in the category are on the same lap.
