The USCC corrected the situation during testing at Daytona

THEIMSA had a big scare during testing at Daytona when he saw two Daytona Prototypes fly away following a series of punctures that occurred on the cars of Richard Westbrook and Joao Barbosa. The new regulation is in question, the DPs having notably seen their performances revised significantly upwards. Following these incidents, Action Express Racing returned to action on December 10 and 11 at Daytona alongside SpeedSource's Mazda SkyActiv Diesel LMP2, several Rileys, Extreme Speed Motorsports' HPD ARX-03b-Honda, the Oreca FLM09 of RSR Racing and GT. Testing then resumed on December 17 and 18 on the road circuit. No problems were noted following the stints carried out with maximum fuel.

“With the collaboration of everyone involved, we believe we have arrived at a package that will work for the DPs when we return to Daytona for the Roar and the Rolex 24”, indicated Scot Elkins, IMSA vice president in charge of competition and technical regulations. “Everyone helped out by coming up with a solution and we are grateful to the teams and manufacturers, as well as our partners like Continental, for their efforts. »

These private tests notably allowed IMSA to set a maximum speed limit for the prototypes before the Roar before the 24h contested from January 3 to 5 before the double round of the clock scheduled for the 25 and 26 of the same month. Other tests will be carried out on December 28 and 29 in the wind tunnel to finalize the balance of performance between the Corvette DP and the Ford Riley. The balance in the LMP2s will be established after the Roar.
