USC – Jonathan Bomarito moves to Mazda Speedsource

The final of the 2014 United Sportscar Championship left a taste of unfinished business for Jonathan Bomarito. The SRT Motorsports driver concluded his season in second position in the Drivers' championship behind his teammate Kuno Wittmer with whom he completed the entire championship except the last round, his team having decided to modify its lines to increase its chances of winning the Teams ranking. A choice it is true that paid off with finally a consecration for the Viper GTS-R. Except that in the wake of Petit Le Mans, Chrysler ends its support for SRT Motorsports and the 2015 program went up in smoke.

Jonathan Bomarito will not have waited too long to get back behind the wheel, since the 32-year-old Californian will compete next year for Mazda Speedsource, the team he frequented between 2010 and 2012 in Grand-Am. “Jonathan will be an excellent addition to the team so we continue the development of the Mazda prototype. Jonathan is respected and loved by the team as well as Mazda fans. We are happy to have him back in the family. » said John Doonan, Motorsports Director of Mazda North American Operations.

Bomarito joins Tom Long, Joel Miller and Tristan Nunez, but the crews will be determined later during preseason testing.
