Qualifying for the Belle Isle Park round in Detroit (contested by the LMP2s and the GTDs) was particularly close. Richard Westbrook snatched the pole by setting a time of 1'25 in the No. 011 Spirit of Daytona Racing Corvette DP, beating the No. 90 Extreme Speed Motorsports HPD ARX-03b driven by Ryan Dalziel by a hundredth. . Christian Fittipaldi followed a tenth behind Action Express Racing's DP while the Oak Racing Morgan-Nissan still driven by Olivier Pla completed the second row despite half a second behind.
Spencer Pumpelly took the GTD pole at the wheel of the Flying Lizard Motorsports Audi R8 LMS ultra with which he completed a lap in 1'32"914. The No. 3 Riley Motorsports Viper GT33-R of Jeroen Bleekemolen came closest, falling short by two tenths.
