The rumor has been circulating for several weeks and it is now official: Iron Lynx and Lamborghini will join forces for the Italian brand's future LMDh program! The announcement was made on the sidelines of the Super Trofeo Grand Finals, currently being held at the Algarve International Circuit in Portimão (Portugal). Lamborghini Iron Lynx will be the official team of the manufacturer from Sant'Agata Bolognese in the world championship ofEndurance (WEC) and in the championship IMSA from 2024.

Stephan Winkelmann, president and CEO of Lamborghini, and Giorgio Sanna, Director of Lamborghini Squadra Corse, confirmed on Saturday evening that the new Lamborghini Iron Lynx team will lead the Italian firm's project for its first season of competition with the new LMDh.

For Lamborghini, “Iron Lynx is the right partner”

Iron Lynx notably supports the Prema team in LM P2 this season, both entities being owned by the DC Racing Solution structure. The team was logically chosen to carry out Lamborghini's project in the premier categories of Endurance. “Since we announced our intention to race with an LMDh, it was clear to us that Iron Lynx was the right partner with whom to take such an important step, declared Stephan Winkelmann. I am delighted to welcome him to the Lamborghini family. Over the years, Iron Lynx has proven itself to be a fast, strong and successful team, just like the Lamborghini sports section. »

Like Penske for Porsche or WRT for BMW, Iron Lynx will provide human, technical and technological assistance to Lamborghini. Founded in 2017 by Andrea Piccini and Deborah Mayer in particular, the Cesena structure has experienced a meteoric rise in recent seasons. Present in multiple categories (WEC, ELMS, GT World, Michelin Le Mans Cup…) with its Iron Lynx and Iron Dames teams, the Italian team has become a reference in the world of Endurance. The Iron Dames, a 100% female team, achieved unprecedented performances this season, including a victory in the Gold category during the 24 Spa 2022 Hours.

Iron Lynx – Prema – Lamborghini: winning trio for 2024?

“I am really happy with the partnership between Iron Lynx and Lamborghini, which marks an important milestone for our group, said Deborah Mayer, president of DC Racing Solutions, which owns Iron Lynx, Iron Dames and Prema. Our championship pedigree, combined with Lamborghini's motorsport heritage, will create the perfect blend to deliver highly competitive performance on the track. I'm looking forward to this next chapter. »

This new 100% Italian alliance brings great hopes for Lamborghini, said Giorgio Sanna " proud " of the partnership with Iron Lynx. “From GT to LMDh programs, we have combined the excellence of three Italian organizations, while benefiting from a technical partnership with Prema Engineering through Iron Lynx. It is our duty to achieve the best results. »

As a reminder, Lamborghini's future LMDh will be equipped with a twin-turbo hybrid V8. Technical support and engineering for the project will be provided by Prema Engineering, a new division of the Prema team. The chassis of the future Lamborghini will be French, since it will be supplied by Ligier. Two drivers have already been confirmed for the project: Mirko Bortolotti and Andrea Caldarelli. In 2024, Lamborghini will participate in the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in its history in the premier category.
