1000 Miles of Sebring – Qualifying: Nicolas Lapierre offers pole position to Alpine

The first qualifications of the season WEC delivered their verdict. Disputed in the fading light of twilight, they crowned Alpine, which signs the second pole position in its history. The LM P2s dominated the clock during the first half of the session before seeing the Hypercars move back in front. Nicolas lapierre completed a lap in 1:48.366 to take provisional pole position four minutes from the checkered flag. The Frenchman quickly improved his time by almost a second, posting an impressive 1:47.407. The session was interrupted under a red flag twelve seconds from the end following a violent exit from the track by Fabio Scherer in the No. 34 Inter Europol Competition. She didn't leave and Alpine therefore offered himself pole position.

Glickenhaus prenait le deuxième temps de cette séance de qualifications grâce à Olivier Pla devant une LM P2… Pro-Am, puisque l’AF Corse nº52 a pris une étonnante troisième place grâce à Nicklas Nielsen. Les Toyota ne figurent donc pas sur le podium de cette séance avec une quatrième place pour la nº8 de Sébastien Buemi, Brendon Hartley and Ryo Hirakawa. No. 7 of Mike conway, Kamui Kobayashi and Jose Maria López only ranks seventh.

Porsches dominate GT

En GT, la séance a commencé par un drapeau rouge des suites de la sortie de piste de Nicolas Leutwiler au volant de la Porsche nº46 du Team Project 1. L’autre voiture de l’équipe, la nº56, tenait un temps la pole position grâce à Brendan Iribe, mais était finalement battue par Gianmaria Bruni sur la Porsche officielle nº91. Une marque qui ne tenait pas longtemps puisqu’elle était effacée dans la foulée par Nick Tandy pour Corvette. Tout se jouait dans les derniers instants, avec le retour de Bruni en haut de la feuille des temps, de nouveau battu, mais cette fois-ci par son coéquipier Michael Christensen qui signait le meilleur chrono en 1:57.233. Ben Keating plaçait la première GTE Am au pied du podium avec l’Aston Martin Vantage AMR nº33 from TF Sport, ahead of the two AF Corse Pros.
