24 Hours of Le Mans – Ferrari in Hypercar in 2023

This time, it's the right one! Nearly 50 years after his last official appearance in the premier category at the 24 Hours of Le Mans (1973), more than 20 years after the last outing in Sarthe of the 333 SP (1999), Ferrari ad return to Endurance with the aim of winning overall.

After Toyota, Peugeot , Audi and Porsche, the Italian manufacturer is the fifth to join the Hypercar category. On a technical level, the trans firmalpine has decided to turn to the LMH, like its Japanese and French rivals, which will allow it to design its own chassis.

« In more than 70 years of racing, on circuits around the world, we have taken our faired-wheel cars to victory by exploring cutting-edge technological solutions: innovations that flow from the track and make every road car produced in Maranello extraordinary, rejoiced Ferrari president John Elkann. With the new Le Mans Hypercar program, Ferrari once again affirms its commitment to motor racing and its determination to be a protagonist in major world motorsport events. »

The very succinct press release, however, does not specify whether the Italian's hybrid system will be connected to the front axle or the rear axle. A detail which is not one, because it is indeed the temporary four-wheel drive which frightens theIMSA, which is currently refusing to accept LMHs in its championship.

As a reminder, Ferrari is the third most prolific manufacturer of the Le Mans classic after Porsche and Audi, respectively credited with 19 and 13 successes.
