24H: Corvette in the middle of the fight

Oliver Gavin already gave GT1 victory to Corvette in 2006. The Briton would like to repeat this feat in the 79th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. To do this, he is banking on the continued development of his team, which has six victories in the GT category to its name since 2001.

“The team has continued to refine its approach to the event, implementing year after year what they learned from the previous edition”, comments Oliver Gavin. “Since I drove for Corvette, the car has evolved a lot and our preparation for Le Mans is very different. In recent years, Corvette has focused more on driver preparation, realizing that this is a very important part of the program. »

Nevertheless, the former ALMS Champion expects a fierce battle between the GTE Pro participants. “BMW has proven that they are very competitive this season in the ALMS and I expect to see them at the front. There Ferrari JMW (Motosport n°66) did well in LMS, without forgetting (the AF Corse and Luxury Racing drivers on Ferrari 458 Italia). There Porsche Flying Lizard (Motorsports n°80) has an impressive entry list with Jörg Bergmeister, Patrick Long and Lucas Luhr? The list is long. »

“A large part of this category will be very competitive and we cannot put anyone as a big favorite”, adds Oliver Gavin. “Audi and Peugeot will fight for the overall victory, but in GTE Pro there will probably be eight or nine cars fighting for the win. »
