6 Hours of Bahrain – Evolution of the BoP for Toyota and Alpine

Sans Glickenhaus, absente du double header final de la saison au Bahreïn, seulement trois voitures seront au départ des deux manches sur le circuit de Sakhir en catégorie Hypercar. Les deux Toyota and l'Alpine now know what to expect in terms of the Balance of Performance, the famous BoP, for the first of these two races, that is to say the 6 Hours (Saturday October 30). The Japanese and French cars will thus operate in the Bahraini desert with a weight equivalent to what they had at the start of the season: 1040 kg (-26 kg) for the Toyota GR010 HYBRID and 840 kg (-22 kg) for theAlpine A480 – Gibson. In addition to a weight reduction, Toyota sees its consumption reduced from 964 megajoules at Le Mans to 909 in Bahrain, while the team at the A arrow goes from 844 to 816.

As a reminder, Jim Glickenhaus justified the withdrawal of his team for the end of the season because of a BoP that he considers too favorable to Toyota: “ We have been transparent, public and clear about our thoughts on BoP fairness in the Hypercar class. We designed and built an LMH that met the homologation requirements and achieved better results than the desired and predicted lap time at Le Mans from 3'30". We believe that the BoP between us and Alpine was fair and gave rise to a good race and left an acceptable gap with the LM P2s. We also believe that the Toyota BoP was unfair, as evidenced by the very excessive gap with Alpine and us during the Hyperpole and the fact that, although both Toyotas had serious problems during the race (fuel contamination problem. Editor’s note), they were still able to beat Alpine and us with a significant margin. We are in cordial communication with the WEC and the ACO to resolve this issue and hope to find a solution. But we have no interest in participating in a perpetual Toyota victory parade and showing up to the race when we don't have a good chance of winning. »
