Allan Simonsen kills himself at the 24 Hours of Le Mans

The 90th anniversary of 24 Hours of Le Mans is bereaved. Allan Simonsen was killed at the wheel of theAston Martin n°95 from the very start of the race. After a crazy swerve, the Dane's car ended its race at the Tertre-Rouge bend. Directly dispatched to the scene, emergency services immediately extracted the driver from his vehicle before transporting him, in a condition already considered very serious, to the circuit's medical center. Despite the efforts of the medical staff on site, the Dane succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival.

The Automobile Club de l?Ouest (ACO), which announced this sad news, specifies that the family of the deceased was immediately informed by David Richards, the boss of Aston Martin Racing. Allan Simonsen, 34, was a very experienced driver, with seven participations in the Sarthe double-clock race. This year he teamed up with Christoffer Nygaard and Kristian Poulsen in GTE-Am.

Images of Simonsen's accident show that the Aston Martin driver spun while riding the curb at the entrance to Les Hunaudières. However, the Dane may have been disturbed by a Ferrari spinning in front of him.

The entire AUTOhebdo team, like the ACO, would like to express its deep sadness after this tragedy and presents its most sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of Allan Simonsen.
