BMW entrusts the development of its GTE to Team MTEK

BMW Motorsport is reorganizing itself for 2017 by keeping only Team RMG and Team RBM in place for the DTM. Team MTEK has been entrusted with the BMW GTE program.

Like Audi Sport and Mercedes, BMW Motorsport will only field six cars on the DTM grids in 2017. The propeller manufacturer has confirmed that Team RMG and Team RBM have been retained for the management of its M4 DTMs, while Team MTEK and Team Schnitzer will be entrusted with other functions.

Ernest Knoors' Team MTEK will focus on preparing the GTE version planned in WEC for the 2018 season. The Team Schnitzer program will be dedicated to GT.

“We raced in DTM for the first time in 2013 and we have learned a lot since then, declared the director of Team MTEK. This discipline has allowed us to strengthen our qualities and our professionalism in all areas. We are obviously looking forward to taking on the new challenge that awaits us in the WEC where the level is also very high. 2017 will be a year of intense preparation which will allow us to face other teams the following season. »

“I am certain that this is the best organization to prepare us for our future challenges, commented Jens Marquardt, director of BMW Motorsport. We have always made sure to continue our successful cooperation with all our teams. We had to adjust our structures in view of the changes made in DTM and the new possibilities that opened up to us allowed this reorganization. »

BMW Motorsport will confirm its DTM drivers on Friday December 9. Antonio Félix da Costa and Martin Tomczyk have already announced their departure from the German Touring Car Championship.
