Brabham aims for GTE Pro entry from 2021

She was present in a stand in the paddock of 24 Hours of Le Mans 2018, it should run well on the Sarthe circuit in 2022. The Brabham BT62 aims to compete in the 2021-22 season of the World Endurance Championship (WEC) as part of a factory sports program.

The racing car born from the imagination of David Brabham (winner of the 24 2009 Hours of Le Mans with Peugeot ) will have its place in the GTE Pro class. “We have a long way to go if we want to earn a place at Le Mans.”, recalls the son of Jack Brabham, three-time champion of Formula 1.

The entry of this Brabham into GTE Pro must be done throughan official team from Brabham Automotive (the manufacturer of the BT62). Long-term trials have already been undertaken by David Brabham.

Pierre Fillon, President of the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) recalls the history linking the Brabham surname to the 24 Hours of Le Mans. “It all started in July 1967 during the only French F1 Grand Prix contested on the Bugatti track in Le Mans, won by Sir Jack Brabham with a car in his name. His sons Geoff and David continued the tradition by winning at Le Mans in 1993 and 2009 for Peugeot », he recalls. Below, relive the Brabham single-seater double at Le Mans in 1967 with French commentary from the time!

« For the ACO, the return of the Brabham name in Endurance is much more than a symbolic act. This proves the remarkable loyalty and extraordinary competitive spirit.”he concludes.

As a reminder, the GT is powered by an old-fashioned 8l V5.4 for a weight of 972kg. More technical information will be revealed later.
