Clearwater Racing heading to GTE-Am in 2017

After the Asian Le Mans Series and the 24 Hours of Le Mans last year, Clearwater Racing hopes to move to the next level in 2017 with a full-time commitment to the World Championship.Endurance in the GTE-Am category.

Mok Weng Sung's team intends to field a Ferrari 488 GTE for the trio Mok Weng Sung – Keita Sawa – Matt Griffin. It would be the first team from Southeast Asia to take part in a full schedule in WEC.

“We've been thinking about it for some time, but it's a significant commitment, both financially and in terms of time commitment, explains Mok Weng Sung, driver and Team Principal. I hesitated for a long time and then this weekend I had a discussion with the team and I said: “Let's do it”.

I actually intended to retire from racing after this season in the Asian Le Mans Series. I've been running for 11 years and I'm going to be 50 next year, so I thought I'd take a step back. But the idea of racing in the world's premier GT championship was just too appealing, and of course I want to go back to Le Mans. »

Clearwater Racing is entered in the Asian Le Mans Series this weekend in Thailand. A now privileged springboard for Asian teams with a view to the WEC and the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

“It’s great to see one of our teams tackling the next step on the endurance racing ladder, mentions Cyrille Teasch-Wallen, director of the Asian Le Mans Series. This shows that the Asian Le Mans Series has achieved its goal: to give teams the opportunity to progress to the point of competing in a world championship. »
