Covid 19 – Gabriel Aubry and Algarve Pro Racing skip the 6 Hours of Spa

The news has been shaking up the paddock of the Spa-Francorchamps circuit since yesterday morning. Member of Algarve Pro Racing in ELMS and Jackie Chan DC Racing in WEC, Gabriel Aubry did not make it to the circuit. The Frenchman tested positive for Covid-19, a suspicion confirmed by a second test today, the results of which he received this evening.

“Upon my arrival, I received a phone call from a relative notifying me that he had contracted the coronavirus, the Habs told us. Although I had no symptoms, I, out of conscience, asked to be tested before leaving. When I arrived here, I was called to tell me that the result was positive.

I then immediately informed the team (Jackie Chan DC Racing. Editor's note), Algarve Pro Racing and the WEC, I isolated myself in my hotel room, and followed all the procedures. The second test, carried out in Spa, was also positive, unfortunately I was forced to turn back and quarantine myself.

I am very saddened by the fact that I will not be able to support my teammates this weekend and I wish them the best for this race. I will continue to follow all the procedures recommended by the WEC and hope to be able to return for the next round of the ELMS (Le Castellet 240, August 29. Editor's note). »

The 16 members of Algarve Pro Racing, three from Jota Sport (which is behind Jackie Chan DC Racing), three technicians from Goodyear and a mechanic from Rebellion Racing who worked at Algarve Pro last week immediately went to submit themselves yesterday Wednesday to the detection test in a laboratory in Malmedy.

Three members of Algarve Pro Racing (one driver in particular) tested positive, which is why the #07 Oreca 25 of Simon Trummer-John Falb-Jon Lancaster did not participate in the first free practice session of the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps and is even forced to withdraw. These three people, as well as all others who were tested, were not allowed to enter the paddock this morning and will have to quarantine.

On a sporting level, Algarve Pro Racing was there with the sole aim of preparing the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the Lusitanian entity not being registered for the WEC year. For his part, Gabriel, who is in second place in the WEC LM P2 Drivers' ranking, is forced to give up on the title. He is now pinning all his hopes on the 24 Hours of Le Mans (September 19-20), having finished second in LM P2 last year alongside Ho-Pin Tung and Stéphane Richelmi.
