Dr Florian Kamelger (R-Motorsport): “Le Mans is one of the team’s goals”

Dr Florian Kamelger, Team Principal of R-Motorsport, the AF Racing competition entity which took part in the development process of the road-going Aston Martin Valkyrie, recalls that Le Mans remains an objective for his structure.

During the presentation of the official program ofAston Martin au WEC 2020-2021 with the version meeting the Hypercar regulations of its Valkyrie, no information had been specified by the British brand on any operating team.

If the possibility of seeing the Multimatic entity integrating the project remains conceivable, a question was asked to Dr Florian Kamelger, Team Principal of R-Motorsport, racing division of AF Racing, who participated in the development of the road Valkyrie, on a possible partnership of the Swiss team with the Gaydon firm.

What is your first impression of the regulations unveiled at Le Mans? Do you think this is the right choice for Endurance?

I think it’s the right decision to bring cars into endurance that look like hypercars on the road and more particularly at Le Mans. This opens the door to the participation of super sports cars and hypercars and we will probably see more manufacturers arriving in this endurance category.

It should also make racing more attractive to fans, as they can recognize cars that are very often their dream cars.

What about possible involvement in the Aston Martin factory program at the WEC and Le Mans? Are you interested in this ?

Being one of the strategic partners of the Valkyrie project alongside Red Bull Advanced Technologies and Aston Martin Lagonda, we naturally support Aston Martin's decision to take a racing version of the Aston Martin Valkyrie to the WEC and to Le Mans.

However, regarding our role in the racing program, we are still in a decision-making process and have not yet made a final decision. I have said several times that Le Mans is one of the team’s goals. I can't say more until we have evaluated all of our options.

Could you start a private program with the Valkyrie Hypercar? If yes, will this have an impact on the other programs (GT3, DTM)?

As already mentioned previously, we are currently evaluating all of our options before choosing a program. This is the situation at the moment.
