Fernando Alonso wants to take part in the new era of endurance

With a future that must include Hypercar and LMDh, international endurance can write a new page of importance in its long history. The new LMH (Hypercar) category must arrive first in the ACO / IMSA, initiated in recent months, and could be an opportunity to see again on track Fernando Alonso.

Questioned by the Instagram account of 24 Hours of Le Mans, with questions from fans, the double world champion F1 and double winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, does not hide his desire to regain endurance.

“This project can be a success if you can find commitment from manufacturers who could come from America, Asia, Europe, but also private teams, customer cars, analyse l’ex-pilote Toyota en WEC.

As long as there are several cars on the grid, it doesn't matter if they are official or private. These endurance races will always bring action and emotion until the last lap because anything can happen in this type of race.

I think the Hypercar is a great project with different solutions. I know the WEC is progressing well now with IMSA. There are a lot of things in the future that will improve endurance and I want to be a part of it. »

What about a future in F1?

The Spaniard also remains attentive to developments in F1, which will see a brand new technical regulation arrive in 2022, after the postponement announced by Liberty Media in the face of the crisis resulting from the coronavirus pandemic.

“I always said: in 2021 there are new regulations in F1, and I could go there because there would potentially be more interest and closer cars, admits Alonso. The rules have been pushed back to 2022, which is bad news in a sense, because we need more balanced cars and the new rules as soon as possible.

But it is understandable because given the situation, it was not possible to develop the single-seaters. For my part, I know more or less what I will do next year. I hope you hear more soon. »
