Ford wants to defend its leadership position

Ford will try to maintain the lead in the GTE Pro standings at the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring this Sunday, July 24. If the Detroit manufacturer won at Le Mans with the No. 68 of Hand-Müller-Bourdais, it is the No. 66 of Stefan Mücke and Olivier Pla which occupies the lead of the Championship, the winners' car not being entered in WEC.

« Le Mans was a success for everyone involved in the program, comments Stefan Mücke. The whole team made a tremendous effort and I am very proud to have participated. It’s time for us to get our first WEC victory and defend our title chances. We are leading the Championship, which is always nice, but the season is long and our opponents tough. We want to win races, but we also need to be consistent to win as many points as possible. »

“I really like the Nürburgring, continues the German. The atmosphere is good and the circuit is interesting. The route offers a lot of overtaking opportunities and we should be able to put on a nice show. The Nürburgring offers different sectors: some sections are slow and some corners are taken at medium or high speed. The behavior of the Ford GT is well balanced and I am convinced that we will be able to fight for the podium. »

Stefan Mücke and Olivier Pla are eight points ahead of Davide Rigon and Sam, the drivers of the Ferrari 488 n°71 from AF Corse which retired at Le Mans. Andy Priaulx, Harry Tincknell and Marino Franchitti, drivers of the second Ford GT entered in the WEC, are in sixth place, 28 points behind their teammates.
