Gérard Neveu: “The time to leave has come”

At the head of WEC for 9 years, Gerard Neveu has been bending the saplings. The director of Le Mans Endurance Management announced that he will leave his position vacant at the end of the 2020 season. A decision to which he returned in detail.

« I've been thinking about it for a while and I think the time has come to leave. » indicates Gerard Neveu. “ Our championship is in a good position, despite Covid-19, with the arrival of the Hypercar category giving way to a new era ».

As for his departure, Gerard Neveu denies having been forced to leave his functions despite the disagreements he might have had with the ACO. “ Not at all (it was not forced, editor’s note.). The decision was taken by mutual agreement with Pierre Fillon. We agreed together that it was the right time to do it.

Over the 9 years we have obviously had moments where we did not agree but that is completely normal (…) The most important thing is that we have always found a solution that is beneficial for everyone. ».

Concerning his future, the soon to be former general director of Le Mans Endurance Management does not know what it will bring. “ I don't know yet what I'm going to do. I am going to take time to be with my family and above all think about the challenges I would like to undertake and see the opportunities that exist. ».

And if there is a future, will it be in motorsport? “ Who knows ? » replies the main person concerned. “ If the right opportunity presents itself in front of me why not. The world is big and I have many different interests so we have to wait and see what opportunities present themselves ».

The name of his successor has not yet been announced.
