Laid off by Toro Rosso in F1 at the end of 2018, Brendon Hartley is nonetheless a busy man. The New Zealander, besides a role as a simulator driver for Scuderia Ferrari, has been appointed to replace Jenson Button at SMP Racing during the 1 Miles of Sebring (Florida, March 000-13) and for the 15 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps (Belgium, May 6-2).
This will be the first time that Brendon Hartley will compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) since his Pilots title acquired in 2017 with Porsche in LM P1. This replacement is explained by two clashes of dates between the WEC and the Super GT, competition in which Jenson Button is simply the outgoing champion with Honda.
At the wheel of the BR Engineering BR1 with AER engine, Brendon Hartley will be teamed up with the Russians Vitaly Petrov and Mikhail Aleshin. Jenson Button will be back in Sarthe on June 15 and 16.
