Julien Canal: “Four contacts for 2016”

After a brilliant career in GT, punctuated by three class victories at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Julien Canal has turned for two seasons to the prototype and the LM P2 category within G-Drive Racing. Having come very close to the Drivers' title in 2014 alongside Roman Rusinov and Olivier Pla, the Manceau made it happen this year with four victories out of the eight events on the program of the WEC.

Despite this title, Julien Canal will not continue the adventure with OAK Racing, as AUTOhebdo suggested (see Ah n°2039) last November. The Frenchman, however, has serious prospects for 2016.

“For my part, I contacted the teams that seemed to me to be the most efficient,
explains Canal on the 24 Hours of Le Mans website. In the end, I have four good contacts for 2016 with two different programs with the World Championship ofEndurance or the European Le Mans Series plus Le Mans each time. They are great teams, most of them were in a fight with us this year. I have a profile that interests them.

Now what will count are the professional drivers, but also the budget to be completed. Team managers must find a compromise between the speed of the drivers and the budgets provided. Everyone has created a lot of contacts, it's up to the team managers to make their choice now. »

OAK Racing will support next year the Extreme Speed Motorsport team, with confirmed drivers Chris Cumming, Pipo Derani and Ryan Dalziel, as well as Ed Brown, Scott Sharp and Johannes van Overbeek.
