Julien Canal: “A big dose of stress”

With two races to go, you are ten points behind Jackie Chan DC Racing. Who is the pressure on?

On everyone. At Le Mans, we took a big hit in terms of points. We are not flawless, but we know that with zero mistakes we can win. The level is such that the slightest misstep costs victory. We worked a lot on refueling, managing potential problems and knowing all the possible procedures.

The fact that Le Mans be credited with a coefficient 2, isn't that damaging for the championship?

If we had got on the podium, we would be leading the championship. But today we are fighting with Jackie Chan DC Racing. It's great for the show but for us, it's a lot of stress. I am well placed to talk about it since each time I have won the WEC, it is also thanks to the result at Le Mans. But I wouldn't say that this coefficient 2 is a good thing. Le Mans is enough in itself and we cannot let one race undermine the work done in the other eight. Apparently this is going to be reviewed…

What are your goals for 2018?

I will go where I am most likely to have good results while having fun. If it is in ELMS, so I'm ready to go back. My choice of heart would be to stay in WEC with Rebellion. It's going remarkably well, both with my teammates and the team and I don't like changing teams every year, it's not constructive. But she does not hide her ambition to return to LM P1 and if this comes to fruition, they will only take professionals.
