Kubica: “We have no chance”

When was your commitment this season decided?

I never hid aiming at a shuttlecock DTM. This is the closest thing to what I know, namely sprint races with cars generating downforce. Moreover, I had already carried out tests in the past and I knew what to expect. But it didn't materialize and so I decided to set myself a new goal, namelyEndurance and 24 Hours of Le Mans, the highlight of the season, a unique event.

What did you think of the car?

To be completely honest, before I went to the tests, everyone told me that the LM P1s were F1 provided with a roof. Certainly, these are very technologically advanced cars and we (ByKolles Racing Team. Editor's note) are not the best example, because we have a significant performance deficit compared to the LM P1s designed by the major manufacturers. But I expected higher cornering speeds.

What will your goals be this year?

ByKolles Racing is a private team that competes against major manufacturers. We have no chance, we do not expect to sign convincing results. But the most important thing is to do the best we can with the equipment we have available. I will live the weekends, understand the systems and get used to the different specificities of Endurance. In short, I will endeavor to gain as much experience as possible for the future. It’s a good way to gently reconnect with circuit competition, in a discipline that is unknown to me…
