The 27-year-old driver, who signed with the Russian G-Drive team to compete in the World Endurance Championship (WEC) in 2022 as well as 24 Hours of Le Mans, could be put aside in the context of anti-Russian measures linked to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

« I would like to make it clear to all sports federations, including the IOC, that sport should stay out of politics and that preventing Russian athletes and teams from participating in world competitions would be an unfair situation. The man with three podiums Formula 1 also wrote a militant speech against this war. “I sincerely hope that a peaceful solution in Ukraine will be found and that we can all continue to live in peace,” he wrote on his social networks. All stakeholders can hopefully find a solution by sitting around the table and through respectful dialogue.

It horrifies me to see two brother nations involved in conflict. I do not want military acts and wars to influence the future of humanity. I want my child and all children to be able to appreciate this beautiful world. »
