The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) is going through a period of turbulence. Indeed, a press release released on Wednesday October 14 reports reduced economic revenues in 2020, due to events postponed, canceled or behind closed doors.
Building on this balancing act, the ACO is preparing for a still trying 2021 campaign. “This year 2020 was particularly delicate for the ACO, faced like many players in the sporting and events world, with the health and economic crises resulting from the Covid-19 pandemic, explains Pierre Fillon, president of the ACO.
We have immense pride, thanks to the exceptional mobilization of all the teams, of having been able to organize the 24 Heures Motos, the 24 Hours of Le Mans or even recently the French Moto Grand Prix, but we have to be realistic, we have recorded declining economic results. To prepare for 2021, which will not take place according to the usual criteria, both in terms of the number of events on site and in terms of welcoming spectators, we must make certain essential decisions to protect our activities. »
The ACO is also preparing to endorse difficult economic measures. “Savings measures have been presented. From decisions considered and currently under discussion: project postponements, a reduction in the payroll including a collective contractual termination agreement which will be the subject of negotiations with the social partners. These concrete elements are carried out in accordance with the values of the ACO, within a united team ready to take on these unprecedented challenges. »
