The FIA updates its driver classification

The driver classification list for the 2018 season has been published by the FIA.

The pilots of theELMS were targeted since the champion with Dragonspeed Léo Roussel went from Silver to Gold. He is not the only one to be affected since Enzo Guibbert, who played in the discipline with Graff Racing, also has this status. Russians from SMP Racing Matevos Isaakyan and Egor Orudzhev also join the circle of Gold drivers. Jean Glorieux, the Michelin champion Le Mans Cup, leaves Bronze status for Silver. Euan Hankey, ELMS GTE vice-champion, moved up to Gold.

Among the pilots of the WEC, Jackie Chan DC Racing driver LMP2 winner at Le Mans Thomas Laurent loses his Silver driver status for Gold. Alessandro Pier Guidi, the GTE Pro category champion with James Calado and AF Corse, has moved up to Platinum status. Conversely, Tom Kristensen, nine-time winner of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, drops back to Gold status after passing the 50-year mark.

Also note that Jules Gounon reached Gold status following his title in the ADAC GT Masters.

If the change of category is flattering for a driver, it is generally not good news for him since the championship regulations limit the level of the crews. This list remains provisional since drivers could change category by becoming a starter for a manufacturer.
