Le Mans: Loeb with Räikkönen in 908?

Kimi Räikkönen seems to have taken a big turn in his career. After turning the page F1 to make Rally, Iceman could, in 2010, make another dream come true for 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Finn has never hidden his desire to compete in this legendary race, whose 2010 calendar fits well with that of the WRC, untouched by any test in June.

From there to imagine it on the fourth Peugeot 908, which could thus wear the colors of Red Bull, there is only one step. Indeed, Peugeot Sport has still not revealed the name of the team which would operate the 'customer' car in 2010. Oreca seemed in pole position to win the bid but the signing of Kimi Räikkönen in the WRC could have changed the situation.

The energy drink brand, always on the lookout for operations with extraordinary media coverage, could be tempted by a scenario that is not lacking in appeal. This is where another World Champion comes in: combining Kimi Räikkönen with Sébastien Loeb would be a true stroke of genius, as both drivers attract the cameras. To complete its crew, Red Bull could draw from its pool of young talents or, on the contrary, bring David Coulthard out of retirement!

Sébastien Loeb, six-time world rally champion, has already participated twice in the 24 Hours of Le Mans and has had the opportunity to test the 908 HDi FAP on several occasions. Peugeot also recently announced that a decision concerning its participation in the next 24 Hours of Le Mans would be announced at the end of February. But the prospect of putting him in the seat of a fourth 908, outside the official Peugeot crews, could accelerate this decision-making. Very enthusiastic about the idea of returning to Le Mans, the Alsatian has often said that he does not want to be "a burden" for a Peugeot Sport crew aiming for victory against the Audi armada, which will certainly be revengeful in 2010.

For this very attractive hypothesis to come to fruition, Peugeot and Red Bull will have to be able to find a private structure capable of welcoming all these beautiful people. Henri Pescarolo, who knows the car well having used it this season, could be the preferred partner in this operation. He knows the 908, he knows Sébastien Loeb, he knows Le Mans. However, the record holder for participations in the 24 Hours of Le Mans will have to ensure the future of its structure, or draft a new one far from its current shareholders...
