Le Mans will be Team Penske's last race in the LM P2 category

It was expected and the Team Penske made it official on Friday in a press release, the American team no longer runs in the LM P2 category of the WEC this season after 24 Hours of Le Mans. After 8th and 4th places obtained at Sebring and Spa-Francorchamps, the Le Mans classic will therefore be the last race in the 2022 world championship for Felipe Nasr, Dane Cameron and Emmanuel Collard. 

“We are very grateful for our time in the WEC this year and have been able to make the most of our time on track this season, said Team Penske President Tim Cindric. As an organization we didn't have a lot of experience in the WEC, so running the races in 2022 allowed us to learn the tracks, the rules and understand how a race weekend works. We were able to gather a lot of feedback and information during the first two races and we expect to learn even more at Le Mans. Fortunately, our LMDh program is progressing quickly, so we need to focus on that to ensure we are ready for the start of the 2023 season.”

L’équipe va désormais se concentrer sur les essais du programme officiel de la Porsche LMDh dont elle sera en charge avec pas moins de quatre voitures prévus pour le retour du constructeur allemand au plus haut niveau de l’Endurance, during the 24 Hours of Daytona 2023. Team Penske could nevertheless return to the WEC this season, since the Stuttgart firm could be tempted by a first in competition for its Hypercar this year at the 8 Hours of Bahrain , season finale on November 12. Dane Cameron and Felipe Nasr, already announced as factory drivers, should logically be there. Team Penske also talks about Le Mans as their last race in the LM P2 category…
