The WEC will not change its calendar in 2017

After two months of reflection, no solution has been found to avoid a clash of dates between the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring (Germany) and the New York ePrix on July 16, 2017. Gérard Neveu, the director of WEC, confirmed that the two events should be contested on the same date while the Formula e welcomes several drivers entered in the World Endurance Championship.

“We have to choose between July 16 and 23, explained Gérard Neveu in the paddock of the 6 Hours of Shanghai. We know that a Grand Prix of F1 takes place at the same time and that it should be at Hockenheim on July 23. So we had to make the decision with the Nürburgring. The calendar will remain like this because the circuit promoters have completed their program and already rented the circuit for the following weekend. I can't do anything anymore. »

One of the WEC's options would have been to move the 6 Hours of the Nürburgring to July 30, but the organizers feared logistical problems in terms of transport in preparation for the 6 Hours of Mexico on September 3. The organizers refused to bring forward the German round due to 24 Hours of Le Mans played on June 17 and 18.
