The 24 2021 Hours of Le Mans postponed to the end of August?

Various signs suggest that if the presence of spectators – even with the establishment of villages of 5000 people – is a sine qua none condition for the holding of the 89th edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the ACO will not be able to maintain its race on June 12 and 13.

The most important of these is the recent announcement from the Ministry of Culture, which authorized summer festivals, but with a maximum capacity of 5000 spectators seated, masked and respecting social distancing. And this, even if the Minister of Culture Roselyne Bachelot also affirmed that if the situation were to improve “ it could be possible to increase the capacity beyond 5000 people and authorize standing configurations. »

Once again, a postponement could not help the affairs of American competitors. The ACO would in any case have taken the lead and checked a “B weekend” in the event of postponement of its flagship event, and it is – according to our information – this option which will be retained and no longer that of the month of June.

This would be one of the last two weekends of August, and most likely the 21st-22nd. If the information were to be confirmed, this would result in the postponement of the 4 Hours of Le Castellet (ELMS) scheduled a week later and freight for the 6 Hours of Fuji (September 26) should be done by plane and no longer by boat, a less expensive means of transport.

Confirmation this week? Most likely. The 10th edition of Le Mans Classic – already postponed for a year and scheduled for July 1 to 4 – should suffer the same fate.
